ARTIST STATEMENT About MeI recieved my BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Architecture, and My MFA in Painting from Fontbonne University in St. Louis. I have been painting and drawing for 25 years. It has been a journey of self discovery, discipline and many times frustration. I live and work in St.louis, Mo.
Artist StatementThe paintings on this site represent the best work of 6 years of exploration and experiment in subject matter, voice, materials and visual language within the paramaters of traditional painting media and recognizable imagery.Experimenting with making art is an open field which at times can seem incomprehsible to both maker and viewer. The questions "What Does It Mean" and "Am I Being Honest? is always at the forefront of my activity. I prefer to work with recognizable images found in various media instead of abstract or invented forms. Knownable images allow the freedom to explore the formal and abstract elements of drawing without losing the connection to thoughts on life and living.The 3 SeriesIn brief the ealier paintngs (landscapes) were an attempt to say something about existence itlself. The "collected image" paintings are an exploration of meaning through subjective thought. In both of these series there was a need to simplify without losing the voice/visual preferences and subject matters that spoke to me.The "Head Shots" are a return to pure drawing and an attempt at a condensed and simplified approach to the subject matter explored in the two previous series.
